A Little About Me

My name is Jeff Frost and I am a Sustainable Design and Business Professional with over 15 years of experience in sustainable architecture and business.  I am actively engaged in the sustainable community in Phoenix and  I am an invited speaker to a wide spectrum of events and groups on topics such as: climate change, externalities, social values, CSR, green building, green living, green products, IAQ, greenwashing, green certifications, DIY green, etc… And…

…most importantly, i have a wonderful family.  A wife who works tirelessly to help patients get a piece of themselves back after traumatic injuries, a son who is almost three, a whiz with puzzles and just staring pre-school and two little ones (yes twins) about to be welcomed to the house any day now.  Otherwise…

…we live in a deep green world.  I drive a Prius, i wear vegan shoes (thank you Simple shoes), we buy/eat organic foods, locally produced when available, we recycle more than we waste, we compost, we hope to start a garden soon, my whole family sleeps on rubber mattresses with organic sheets, I am highly sensitive to chemicals, our cleaning products are toxin free, my entire house has been renovated to be free to toxins (more on this in the blog), i hate malls and shopping centers, i have never set foot in a Wal-mart (really, i can say that) and it pains me to no end to receive a gift that is just trash passed off a product.  At every financial transaction, i am always concerned about where that dollar is going and whether or not i am about to contribute to some anti-humanitarian practices thousands of miles away.  i get overwhelmed with guilt if i have to buy something that doesn’t support my principles or if i have to even consider a plastic water bottle to quench my thirst.  I am a confessed ecoholic.

I currently sit on the Board of the Phoenix Green Chamber of Commerce and am the chair of the eco+Standards committee with a great group of people, working on creating the first LEED-like sustainable business standard and certification in the US.  We are currently in BETA testing… more in the blog.

I am an invited speaker to a wide spectrum of events and groups on topics such as: climate change, externalities, social values, CSR, green building, green living, green products, IAQ, greenwashing, green certifications, DIY green, etc…

On another note, i am the former co-owner of a.k.a. Green, the valley’s first, comprehensive green building store.  Over the course of 5 years in business, we built a tremendous reputation in the green building/consulting industry.  We started the local green drinks, won a Valley Forward award for our educational outreach, and participated in numerous events helping to spread the word about green living and green building products.  On Earth day, every year, we were on almost all of the local TV stations (they’d just show up) and on every other day were  media darlings, constantly being contacted to share our knowledge and resources for their green articles.  We sold green products, held workshops on a large variety of topics and offered DIY workshops on product application.

We also ran a.k.a. Green Services, a full service architecture and consulting firm dedicated to deep green practices.  We did LEED consulting for both commercial and residential buildings, NAHB verification (mick did most of these), marketing consulting for developers, product manufactures and investors, and in-home consultation on issues of water, energy, IAQ, and design.

Prior to either of these, i was project manager at Sol Source Architecture and Design.  We were designing and building some of the valley most creative, energy efficient homes out of a wide array of building materials like strawbale, adobe, SIP’s, ICF’s, Rammed/Cast earths, E-Crete, and EPS (all-foam) stress skin systems.  I have personally installed all of these systems and have an in-depth knowledge of each, including their pros and cons, and even some of their controversies.

Prior to that, i was in various project manager positions including time at Salazar Associate architects and Stucky Vitale Architects in Royal Oak, Michigan.

I graduate from Lawrence Tech University in Southfield, Mi, with a BS in Architecture.

I went to HS in Rockford, Michigan and having moved quite often, grew up in Otsego, Kalamazoo, Portage, and Mattawan as well.
